-only used with action verbs
- interchangeable with -(으)려고 하다 and -ㄹ(을) 터이다
- ㄹ 참이다 attaches to verbs ending in a vowel
- 을 참이다 attaches to verbs ending in a consonant
- tense is expressed in the final 이다
- conversely, negation is expressed in the verb this pattern attaches to

Examples:
도망갈 참이에요./I'm going to run away.
그 것을 거절할 참입니다./I intend to reject it.
친구를 만날 참이었어요./I was going to meet my friend.
친구를 만나지 않을 참이에요./I'm not going to meet my friend.
