This pattern is a conditional imperative (i.e. something/someone is compelled to do something based on some condition).
- is a short form of -라고 하면 and is used more often than -라고 하면
- used only with action verbs
- the verb used with this pattern is usually used again in the final/independent/main clause
- tense and/or negation is expressed in the verb of the final/independent/main clause
- usually used in the present or future tense, not the past tense
- 라면 attaches to verbs ending in a vowel
- 으라면 attaches to verbs ending in a consonant
Examples:
가라면, 가지 않겠어요./If you tell me to go, I won't (go).
공부하라면, 공부하라./If I tell you to study, then study.
