This pattern shows expectation, longing, hope, or desire.

- used with action verbs
- negation is expressed in either the final 바라다 or the main verb that the 기를 portion is attached. There is a slight difference in meaning as in the follow examples;
— 그분이 돌아오지 않기를 바랍니다./I hope he wont' come back.
— 그분이 돌아오기를 바라지 않아요./I'm not hoping that he will return.
- tense is expressed in the final 바라다 verb
- the formal form of this expression (기를 바랍니다) appears to be much more common the less formal form, 기를 바라요

Examples:
취직하기를 바랍니다./I hope I find a job.
선물을 받기를 바라지 않았어요./I wasn't hoping to receive a gift.
